Market Intelligence

📈 Why These Markets Work

Artificial scarcity + high cultural demand = secondary market premiums. Limited release quantities, passionate fandoms, and resale platforms like StockX and eBay create efficient price discovery. The key is buying at or near MSRP — never paying secondary market prices yourself.

🃏 TCG Cards: Best Long-Term

Trading cards outperform most asset classes over 10-year windows. The global market hit $21.4B in 2024, projected to reach $58.2B by 2034 (13% CAGR). PSA/BGS graded cards command 5–20× raw value. Magic: The Gathering grew 700%+ on StockX YoY in 2025.

👟 Sneakers: Volume Play

Only 47% of sneaker drops now profit (down from 58% in 2020). Margins compressed to 10–25% for most releases. However, collab exceptions (Travis Scott, CPFM, Off-White) consistently hit 100–255%. Treat sneakers as a volume business, not a lottery.

⌚ Watch Collabs: Highest % Returns

Swatch collabs with luxury brands (Omega, Blancpain, now AP) generate the largest % returns of any retail-priced product. A $300 watch selling for $5,000 is 1,567% ROI. The catch: in-store only, line-dependent. Early arrivals win everything.

🧱 LEGO: Safest Long-Term

LEGO sets appreciate 11% annually on average per academic research — better than gold or S&P 500 averages. Sets retired 2+ years consistently trade at 2–4× retail. Star Wars, Harry Potter, and UCS sets are the safest bets. Zero timing risk if bought at MSRP.

⚠️ Risks to Know

Reprints kill value (Pokémon reprint events). Hype fades (Labubu collapsed 50%+). Over-production ends crazes. Counterfeit products are rampant in TCG and designer toys. Never buy product on the secondary market intending to flip — always buy retail.
